9:00am [9:00am] Volunteers Needed to Plant Trees
Volunteers needed to plant American chestnut trees at the Manchester Land Conservation Trust’s farm on Saturday, May 7 at 9:00 a.m. From the cider barn at 330 Bush Hill Road, Manchester, drive along the dirt road to the pavilion, and from there follow the story trail signs to the planting area near apple trees. Bring work gloves. Many hands will make light work as we assist the Connecticut Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation in their work of "restoring a population of healthy chestnut trees to the eastern U.S. hardwood forest…using the technique of "a germplasm conservation orchard (GCO), which contains seedlings from different mother trees...in an orchard collection of diverse wild American chestnut sources, primarily native to Connecticut." Rain or shine, but extreme weather cancels. Info on our website: www.manchesterlandtrust.org.
