  National Substance Use Prevention Week
May 8 – May 14 is National Substance Use Prevention Week National Prevention Week brings together communities to raise awareness about the importance of substance use prevention & positive mental health. The Change Collaborative is hosting 3 events: Tuesday May 10th – The Power of YOU(TH): Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) wants to prepare youth to resist peer pressure & empower them to encourage friends to make the right choices. This event will be held virtually starting at 6:30PM. Thursday May 12th – Prevention Walk: Join us for our 2nd Annual Prevention Walk. We’ll be walking from the front office of Manchester High School to the Manchester Youth Service Bureau, where there will be music, free food, giveaways, as well as prizes for the first 30 participants. 2:30-3:45PM. Saturday May 14th – Hidden in Plain Sight: Parents and caregivers can attend an interactive workshop that teaches participants how to start conversations with teens about substance use and how to spot drug paraphernalia and substance misuse. Letter Carriers’ #StampOutHunger Food Drive
The 30th Annual Letter Carriers’ #StampOutHunger Food Drive. Get ready to collect and bag non-perishable food items. Place them at your mailbox and your carrier will take it back to the post office to then be sorted and donated directly to us at MACC for the Emergency Food Pantry and to Second Congregational Church’s Pantry. #onemailboxatatime

8:00am [8:00am] Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Online Appointments are now mandatory for all Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events. Click the link to schedule your appointment to bring your HHW to our town landfill. Collection dates for 2022 are: April 2 (FILLED), May 14, June 4, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 29 and Nov. 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Manchester regional center for household hazardous waste collection. A fall outreach collection will also be held Oct. 15 in Stafford This applies to residents of Glastonbury, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, Somers, South Windsor, Stafford, and Vernon. The Manchester Garden Club will have their annual plant sale this Saturday, May 14 starting at 8:30 am at the Community Baptist Church, 585 East Center Street. This will be rain or shine. We have a great selection of native plants, pollinator friendly plants and plants from members gardens. Best of all, Garden Club members will be there to help with your questions. These plants sell quickly so come early. This is our only fund raiser so if you want to support the Garden Club and help us continue to do all that we do this is the way to help.
