SUPPORT OUR SOLDIERS-CONNECTICUT Sunday June 12, 2022 Contact:Frank Forrest 860-690-2845 Support Our Soldiers-Connecticut will be holding a Fourth of July/summer collection event to support our overseas Troops on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at Hillstown Grange, 617 Hills Street, East Hartford. Items requested from Camp Lemonnier Djibouti: “Your items are greatly appreciated. Please consider us for future care packages, which we also send down range. Items that are always needed and appreciated in our warm climate theaters include: Bug spray (malaria is a real threat to our service people **DO NOT SEND AEROSOLS) Sunscreen (25 SPF or greater **DO NOT SEND AEROSOLS) Foot powder Single serving snack items (cookie packets, peanuts/nuts, fruit snacks, crackers, jerky, Slim Jims, candy that doesn't melt, things that do not need to be heated up to eat, instant coffee, Gold Fish, etc.) Electrolyte drink packets (Gatorade, Powerade, etc.) Feminine hygiene products Baby wipes, or the equivalent (Dude Wipes, etc.) Dental Hygiene products (single packaged toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash) Deodorant + antiperspirant (**DO NOT SEND AEROSOLS) Laundry Detergent Bug spray” Volunteers are needed on the day of the event to sort items, pack boxes, and draw letters and cards to add to the boxes. This is a perfect event for all ages! It costs about $900 to ship the packages, and we need donations to help defray postage costs. Join us for a day of weaving and music! Donations Appreciated! Threads - Weavers from the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center will demonstrate weaving skills and historical techniques, and make progress on the Electa Cheney 1825 reproduction flannel. Spinners will demonstrate wool and linen spinning. Also, rug braiding will be demonstrated. Visitors will have an opportunity to try their own hands on loom and wheel! Strings - The Connecticut Guitar Ensemble and harpist Haley Hewitt will perform, along with a local mandolin and guitar duo. Learning Opportunities: Find out about local weaving, spinning, rug braiding & musical learning opportunities, and sign up for Summer painting, drawing & sculpture classes at Cheney Homestead Arts.org Tour the 1785 Homestead, gardens, 1751 Keeney Schoolhouse and learn about Manchester, the Cheney family and Early American life.
