This test will take place on Thursday June 2nd starting at 10AM. The hydrant flow test may result in reduced pressure and/or discoloration of the water in the area of 623 Main Street, corner Main St & Pearl St, Manchester, CT. If water appears discolored, the homeowner should try to avoid using it until it clears. This will prevent rust and sediment from being brought into the home’s system.
If sediment does get into a home’s hot water tank, the homeowner should wait until the water clears and then open the faucet at the bottom of the tank to drain the collected material, which will settle at the bottom.
Also, if a load of wash is done during the period of discolored water, the load should be kept wet and done again after the water clears. Four ounces of cream of tartar should be added to help clean any discoloration of the clothing.
It normally takes a few hours for the water to clear in a home. If water appears discolored for an extended period, the homeowner should call the Water Division at

Copies of our June selection, The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles, are available for check out at both library buildings.
The bestselling author of A Gentleman in Moscow and Rules of Civility and master of absorbing, sophisticated fiction returns with a stylish and propulsive novel set in 1950s America
In June, 1954, eighteen-year-old Emmett Watson is driven home to Nebraska by the warden of the work farm where he has just served a year for involuntary manslaughter. His mother long gone, his father recently deceased, and the family farm foreclosed upon by the bank, Emmett’s intention is to pick up his eight-year-old brother and head west where they can start their lives anew. But when the warden drives away, Emmett discovers that two friends from the work farm have hidden themselves in the trunk of the warden’s car. Together, they have hatched an altogether different plan for Emmett’s future.
Spanning just ten days and told from multiple points of view, Towles’s third novel will satisfy fans of his multi-layered literary styling while providing them an array of new and richly imagined settings, characters, and themes.

Manchester Community College at the Bicentennial Band Shell
Description:
The James “Dutch” Fogarty Independence Day Celebration provides people of all ages and backgrounds an opportunity to gather and celebrate our nation’s freedom and honor the men and women of our armed forces.
This year’s celebration will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 (rain date is Sunday, June 26, 2022) on the grounds of Manchester Community College at the Bicentennial Band Shell.
The day’s festivities will begin around 4:00PM and include a variety of food, organized activities for children and live music. Local sensation Whiskey Boulevard will begin their musical set at 5 pm and we are thrilled to have Savage Brothers headline this year’s music presentation beginning at 7:15 PM. The evening will conclude with a spectacular display of fireworks beginning at approximately 9:30PM. We are also happy to announce the return of our famous “Chicken BBQ” Dinner this year. Tickets for the event will be on sale in June at Town Hall.
We would like to invite you to become a sponsor of the 37th Annual James “Dutch” Fogarty Independence Day Celebration. We are thrilled to be back once again for the annual celebration.
We are committed to providing an accessible event that everyone can enjoy. Any assistance you can give this year would be greatly appreciated. With the increased cost of the bands, lighting and sound, fireworks and port-o-lets, the fireworks committee has been busy at work. We were thrilled with the outpouring of generosity from the community, however this is not nearly enough to help cover our costs.
Thank you for your consideration of this year’s request. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Erin O’Neil, at (860) 922-6805, Molly Devanney at (860) 338-1612 or Marty Shea at (860) 202-1773.

Not So “YA” Book Club – The Light in Hidden Places – Sharon Cameron
One knock at the door, and Stefania has a choice to make...
It is 1943, and for four years, sixteen-year-old Stefania has been working for the Diamant family in their grocery store in Przemysl, Poland, singing her way into their lives and hearts. She has even made a promise to one of their sons, Izio -- a betrothal they must keep secret since she is Catholic and the Diamants are Jewish.
But everything changes when the German army invades Przemysl. The Diamants are forced into the ghetto, and Stefania is alone in an occupied city, the only one left to care for Helena, her six-year-old sister. And then comes the knock at the door. Izio's brother Max has jumped from the train headed to a death camp. Stefania and Helena make the extraordinary decision to hide Max, and eventually twelve more Jews. Then they must wait, every day, for the next knock at the door, the one that will mean death. When the knock finally comes, it is two Nazi officers, requisitioning Stefania's house for the German army.
With two Nazis below, thirteen hidden Jews above, and a little sister by her side, Stefania has one more excruciating choice to make
