On Sunday, May 1, at 9:00 a.m., the Manchester Land Conservation Trust will host a free walk to view and hear birds at our 177.5-acre property in the southwestern area of Manchester. Land Trust member Jean DiBenedetto will lead the walk, which may encounter migrating birds. All welcome, whether experienced or new birdwatchers. Bring binoculars, if you have them. Park at 330 Bush Hill Road, Manchester. The walk will take about an hour, but all are welcome to stay longer to explore three-plus miles of trails at the property. Extreme weather cancels. Bring work gloves. Many hands will make light work as we assist the Connecticut Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation in their work of "restoring a population of healthy chestnut trees to the eastern U.S. hardwood forest…using the technique of "a germplasm conservation orchard (GCO), which contains seedlings from different mother trees...in an orchard collection of diverse wild American chestnut sources, primarily native to Connecticut." Thursday May 12th – Prevention Walk: Join us for our 2nd Annual Prevention Walk. We’ll be walking from the front office of Manchester High School to the Manchester Youth Service Bureau, where there will be music, free food, giveaways, as well as prizes for the first 30 participants. 2:30-3:45PM.
Saturday May 14th – Hidden in Plain Sight: Parents and caregivers can attend an interactive workshop that teaches participants how to start conversations with teens about substance use and how to spot drug paraphernalia and substance misuse. Hoffman has had two liver transplants, the first being at the age of 13 months, making him one of the youngest transplant recipients in the nation. He will speak on the condition that led to his need for transplants and their physical and emotional impact on him. His book, LIVEr: My Journey of Transplant Survival, explains how he found direction in life by sharing his story, and will be available for purchase and signing the night of the event.

Keith N. Morgan, a 59-minute television show of an illustrated program about artist and architect Charles Adams Platt (1861-1933), who had a national reputation as an etcher, painter, landscape designer, and architect.
Platt was a member of the Cheney family and is buried in the family cemetery in Manchester.
Keith N. Morgan, author, scholar, and professor of the history of art and architecture at Boston University, presented the lecture in June 2016, discussing Platt’s multiple careers and his work for the nation at large, as well as for Cheney family members in Manchester – including several of the mansions on the Great Lawn along Hartford Road.
